Toronto, We are Here

It may not be Memorial Day in Canada this weekend, but never the less, the nice weather is beckoning riders to hit the streets and enjoy all that T.O. has to offer. And we’re happy to now offer over 300 spaces at 30 locations around Canada’s biggest city!

2016-05-26 20.12.01In 2014 the city debuted a pilot program with these spaces in pay-and-display car parking zones around the city. Initially (and currently) the spots are free for motorbikes, but possibly later this year the city will be charging. We talked to some reps at the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) and learned that they have the technology to start charging for street parking, but are waiting for the city’s parking endorsement to get up to speed before rolling out paid meters

They way it looks today is that all designated motorbike street parking is free, but bikers must obey street sign restrictions. Most places in the center city have a time limit on street parking (2-3 hours), however this limit is seldom enforced on motorbikes. This means bikers can ride to work and park all day. As a bonus, the TPA has surface lots with pay & display kiosks that allow motorbike parking. These lots don’t have designated motorbike stalls, so if you park, simply take up a whole car space.

Toronto is off to a great start with their program and we’re pleased to hear that they won’t be charging for parking until they can properly roll out the mobile payment option. We are a little anxious to hear how much rates will be and what restrictions they uncover, but as long as the city keeps it cheap and simple bikers will stay happy!
